BISHOP VLADIMIR FEKETE TOOK PART IN THE PRAYER SERVICE TO THE SAINT APOSTLE BARTHOLOMEW
The Apostolic Prefect of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, Bishop Vladimir Fekete, took part in a prayer service to the Saint Apostle Bartholomew.
For Christians of Azerbaijan the personality of Apostle Bartholomew is of exceptional importance.
According to the ancient tradition of the Church, Bartholomew’s lot fell to preach the Light of Christ on the lands of modern Azerbaijan. Saint Bartholomew was martyred for Christ in this region, on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The tradition of the Eastern Church claims that the place where this event took place is the current city of Baku.
The divine service, held annually at the foot of the Maiden Tower, was led by Bishop Alexy of Baku and Azerbaijan.
The memory of Saint Bartholomew is celebrated annually by Orthodox Christians on June 24 and by Catholics on August 24.
Then the archpastors of the Catholic and Orthodox communities of Azerbaijan gathered together for a meeting.
During the meeting issues of inter-Christian dialogue were discussed and prospects for mutual cooperation were identified.
